The Darkness Descends...
The dismal atmosphere of this rainy day creates the perfect backdrop to complement the sickening feeling about the direction of our country this morning. Our great country, founded on reason by men who actually used their minds instead of their glands, has been hijacked by the moral scare-tactics of the party of misinformation. And you, my fellow 51% or so countrymen, will have to bear the burden of the dark days that are ahead for our nation. My only consolation is that near half of us are vehemently opposed to this regime.
President Bush and his regime have played out the scare card and you bought it. The bogey-men of homosexuality, Godlessness, and impending doom from Islamic fundamentalist terror have won out over the reason that is needed to deal with these and many more important issues facing us today. These items have been hashed and re-hashed so many times we are all tired of hearing them. So I offer my predictions for the immediate future.
The crisis in the Mid-east will only get worse; We will eventually either pull out of Iraq, claiming that we have made the place safe for democracy, or be forced out by the endless terror and the bodies of American citizens piled up on the tarmac to be shipped home to their loved ones. The end result will be the same, however. Iraq will eventually become a united country that hates us, and will in fact become that threat to our national security and home of weapons of mass destruction that Bush told us it was in the first place. Whomever ultimately replaces Saddam as dictator of this new Islamic fundamentalist state will make him look like a puppy dog.
The United States will become increasingly isolated from the rest of the thinking world. All the good will we had the morning of 9/11 is pretty much gone by now. It will now proceed to completely disappear and be replaced by outright anger and resistance. Don't get me wrong...I don't give a fuck what France thinks, but when everyone starts to go against you, you must at least ask yourself the question, "am I wrong?" Just wait until Blair gets tossed in England, there won't be anyone to turn to.
This instability in the region will put the screws to the Saudis, who will eventually either fall or sense the way the wind is blowing and bite us on our ass no matter what ties the Bush family and Big Business has with them. In the meantime, we will not have done anything at all to promote energy self-sufficiency or curb our dependence on foreign oil. Gasoline prices will at least double by the year 2008. This will send shock waves through the automobile industry inducing massive lay-offs which will in turn kick the chair out from under our already ailing economy.
The rich businesses, in their attempt to keep their Fortune 500 spots, will turn to ever more outsourcing of jobs to the poorer countries. American businesses will have no incentive to do otherwise. Small businesses who can't compete will be squashed, leaving us with fewer choices. But that will be okay...we won't have any money to spend on products because the unemployment rate will rise as our national debt piles up to record levels.
The Patriot Acts will be strengthened and enlarged as our paranoia increases. This will possibly catch some terrorists, but more likely American citizens will be caught in the net, their rights forfeit and their lives terrorized if not ruined.
Science will take a back seat to religion. As a result, there will be fewer and fewer incentives for medical companies to do research on cures for diseases that affect a large portion of mankind.
Since I have had kids, I have been appalled at the lack of funding for our schools. This will continue on a downslide. And I am not partisan on this; here in Alabama we have a courageous Republican governor who probably cut his political nuts off trying to do something about it.
Of course...we can be thankful that those gays won't be marrying...what a relief! Boy, that really has an effect on MY life I can tell you! I was ready to turn queer, divorce my wife and run off with the cabana boy...NOT! I don't give a damn how the Religious Right conducts their lives, and they try to do way more to fuck with mine than any queer ever has. Who gives a shit? I don't.
Okay, that's enough. Some of you may be pissed off at my views. Sorry. As long as this still is a free country, I can at least voice my opinions. Hey, I live in Alabama! I am a low-food-chain fish surrounded by conservative sharks. Let's just give it four years and see how many of my predictions come true. If half of them do, mark my words it will take 12 years to straighten all this mess out.
I'm through now...why don't I feel better?
